FOR ME GLASS IS A MATTER OF DENSITY WHICH MAKES LIGHT VIBRATE.
I LOVE TO MIX DIFFERENT LAYERS OF COLORED GLASS TOGETHER.
TRANSFORMED BY HEAT, THE GLASS HOLDS A MOVEMENT OF WHICH WE SEE THE DISTINCT TRACES. EACH PIECE IS DIFFERENT.
I ALSO COLDWORK THE ANGLES BY FACETTING THE CURVES CREATED BY THE HEAT.
A PARADOX IN ITSELF OF ALTERING HEAT THROUGH COLD !
THE END RESULT BECOMES A GLISTENING OR FROSTED TEXTURE THAT RFLECTS AND DIFFUSES LIGHT AS ONLY GLASS CAN DO !
GLASS & LIGHT
MÉLA: First syllables of the first and last name of the glass artist
MÉLANIE LAPLANTE. Sanskrit word which means to bring together, to reunite: a nod to the glass fusion technique which she mainly uses to compose the glass pieces created in her Montreal studio.
MÉLA makes jewelry for yourself, for your home and also your Christmas tree!
