Randy Kaltenbach is a Calgary-based artist with an artistic practice centered on lampworking and glassblowing, but including elements of kiln-formed glass, and other glass and sculptural media. His latest show was the 2017 “In Vitro Veritas MMXVII”, and he is represented by Calgary’s Passion for Glass gallery and Kimberley’s Mountain Grass Gallery. After 15 years as an avid part-time maker, he became a graduate of Calgary’s Alberta College of Art and Design. Kaltenbach has now designed and built his own lampworking studio where he follows his heart and makes his art.

Frozen In The Sublime
Reminiscent of light upon a frozen sea, my installation Frozen in the Sublime (Illingworth Kerr Gallery - Alberta University of the Arts), was blown into a triangular prism mold. The blown glass was reheated, gravity “had its way”, cut and polished.

The prairie skies at dusk and dawn produce an incredible light. Summer storms add a stunning dynamic visual effect to this light. This decoration is one of my favourites and one of my most popular.

Caithness Reverie
I spent part of a summer in Caithness, northern Scotland. The stark landscape of low hills, gorse, sheep, and stone buildings was a strong inspiration that I could not resist. The base is rock collected from the shore in the port of Lybster.
