Brenda Malkinson
Brenda Malkinson
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
For over forty-five years Canadian artist Brenda Malkinson has been a full-time independent artist working with coloured glass and vitrified glass stains and enamels to create large contemporary architectural commissions that enrich and illuminate public and private spaces with colour, shape, textures and meaning. Malkinson is well known for her innovative and experimental approach to glass art. She has invented many original glass methods and developed strategies that extend the limits of the traditional stained-glass technique.
Although glass has been her mainstay, her studio practise includes contemporary woodblock printmaking. Malkinson’s most recent exhibition, the Surface of Things, Chasing Light 2018, was composed of twenty-three woodblock prints and three glass and wood sculptures. Brenda is a recipient of 2013 Edmonton Artists Trust Fund Award, 2018 ACAD Alumni Legacy Award, 2019 Eldon & Anne Foote Edmonton Visual Arts Prize, shortlist award.
