Ride for Dad Motorbike
Luann Baker-Johnson
Annually, the artists at Lumel Studios create and donate a hot-sculpted glass motorbike for the Ride for Dad, the event's top fundraiser. Ride for Dad, drive their motorbikes into the studio, and have a family party while Lumel Studios creates the piece. The Lumel crew brings 30-40 glass bits, dependent on the motorbike’s design, and Lu gaffs the piece. The motorbike is the ideal piece to show the spirit of communal work, as the multiple bits are designed on the fly by the assisting crew, and Lu compiles them into the final piece. Ride for Dad 2025 takes place on the same weekend as GAAC’s conference!
Artist Bio: Lu was raised in the Yukon and has travelled extensively in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and lived in Austria, Turkey, Malaysia, and Indonesia. She is a glass studio artist and owner, a student, teacher, marathon runner, traveller, and a mother of six.
