We’re all familiar with the expression: “If you can’t make it good, make it big. If you can’t make it big, make it blue.” It’s a phrase commonly tossed around among glassblowers, though it originally stems from American graphic designer Paul Rand, with one intentional twist: the colour changed from red to blue.
In preparation for the upcoming Glass Art Association of Canada’s 2025 Conference in Whitehorse, Yukon, June 5–8, 2025, we invite glass artists and studios across Canada to take part in “Timestamp,” a photo exhibition that captures who we are—right now.
The Glass Art Association of Canada is a professional not-for-profit association which serves to connect a geographically-diverse community of artists, designers, craftspeople, educators, curators, collectors, gallerists and students passionate about work made with glass.
Our aim is to highlight excellence in Canadian studio glass through activities that are pertinent and accessible, and which promote communication, public education and appreciation, both in Canada and internationally. GAAC is a volunteer and member-run organization.
Krissie Amaral grew up in Brampton Ontario, always interested in creative pursuits. She graduated from Glow Academy, earning certifications in Makeup Artistry and Advanced Bridal Makeup. She then began her pursuit of art at George Brown in 2009, earning a certificate in Art and Design. Later she returned to follow her passion at Sheridan College in 2017, where she obtained a Bachelor of Craft and Design, specializing in glass and earning a certificate in creative studies. She furthered her education in glass by attending two courses at the Corning Museum of Glass in 2019, with Ross Richmond and Peadar Lamb, where she developed her skills in two different disciplines. She continued to hone her stained glass skills and take part in the community through her involvement with The Stonehouse of Campbellville. She volunteered with the Glass Art Association of Canada between 2020 and 2022 as a Board Director and Communications Team member. She had announced her return to the board at the 2023 Annual General Meeting, a few months before her passing.
